0700 – Check emails, texts, and the paper diary.
0730 – Welcome some little people to the house and be grandad for an hour before setting off for a business network meeting in Sunderland. I chat with a few people from diverse professions before leaving to change into work clothes.
1200 – I get to the house renovation, garage conversion, and sunroom extension we started 13 weeks ago. The end is in sight, and all major works are completed. Due to the availability of some specialists, it will be another three weeks before I can ask the building inspector and client to sign it off. Not a bad timescale when we lost a week to the weather and the client added about another week of extras to the original programme. I check some aspects and remove tools and supplies from the site.
1300 – Whilst at the job, I receive a call from a publican whose property has not passed a fire safety inspection. Some doors and windows need to be replaced, and a couple of adjustments made to existing doors. I have to go and check on other work completed two days ago less than a minute from the pub, so I agree to visit and measure up this afternoon.
1345 – Drop some excess materials at the merchants for a refund, empty tools from the van into the lockup, then go and check on the work and visit the publican.
1500 – Call at a local cricket club where I drop off some advertising boards and am pleased to hear that the cost of the advertising/sponsorship will pay for new equipment for the junior section at the club. That makes me smile.
1530 - back at the home office, a quick snack and drink then about an hour of admin – quite enough for a Friday in 30° of heat.
